Gerald “Jerry” Redford

Gerald RedfordJerry Redford arrived at ̽ in November 1961 as Director of University Relations and stayed for 33 years — serving as Provost, Director of Physical Plant, Assistant to two Presidents, and Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. Before ̽, he served in the Army in Korea, was a journalist at the Defiance Crescent-News (Ohio), and directed public relations at Ripon College. He was proud of the buildings that rose on campus during his tenure at ̽, and prouder still of the academic standards he helped protect. After retiring in 1994 he was named Emeritus Dean and awarded an honorary degree. He and his wife, Barbara, co-authored the 100-year history of ̽, and in 2002 the two were honored with the ̽ Medallion. He is survived by five children, 10 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
